My Illustration for Popshot's Solar issue, centred around a book quote from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's 'Half of a Yellow Sun'

(Above) Initial sketch. My inspiration here was a woman holding a floating orbing representative of the sun with the wildlife and fauna flowing towards it. I knew I wanted it to be super dense in interesting illustration with lots to look at.

(Above) Second Iteration of my sketch. This is more detailed in the forms around the figure. It took me a long time to compose this exactly how I wanted but I knew it would save me time in the colour version if I nailed all the details in the sketch first.

(Above) First pass of the colour version! I was loving how the colours were looking in this and I was tempted to leave it as it was but I decided to experiment with adding a grain texture...

(Above) The finished Illustration - really glad I took it further with the texture, think it works great with the funny highlights. Not only was I super happy with how this came together, but the client loved it too so was a win all round!
